A recent story in USA Today discussed the sharp rise in both the number of U.S. pet insurers and the number of insured pets over the last decade. Prior to 1997 only one firm offered pet insurance in the U.S., but that number has increased to 11 as of this year. These per insurance firms have also reported solid increases in policy sales, which are growing as much as 10 percent per year.
Pet insurance is fairly affordable, running about $15 per month for basic plans to $75 per month for comprehensive coverage. Policies generally cover 80 to 90 percent of a covered veterinary expense after a claim is submitted.
Pet insurance sales agents should see job opportunities increase as this industry shows continued growth.
