HBO Cancels Racing Show Luck

HBO has permanently suspended production of its horse racing drama "Luck" after a third horse was euthanized on the set. The well-cast series featured Dustin Hoffman and other highly regarded actors playing the roles of trainers, jockeys, veterinarians, owners, and bettors on the California racing circuit.

The show suffered criticism from various groups after multiple horses were injured during filming. The horse injured this week reportedly reared up and fell backwards while being led back to its stall by a groom. The two prior injuries occurred during the filming of racing scenes.

Despite being plagued by low ratings, "Luck" had already been picked up by HBO for a second season. The first season (and series) finale will air on March 25th.
