Dog Bite Prevention Week

The week of May 20th to May 26th is being promoted as National Dog Bite Prevention Week. This week serves to remind both pet owners and those who work with dogs in a professional capacity (such as groomers, doggie day care operators, dog trainers, and K-9 police officers) to be observant of behavioral changes in the animals under their supervision to minimize the risk of being bitten.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 4.7 million people suffer dog bites each year. Children are the victims in approximately 400,000 of these incidents, with the remainder of the dog bites involving adult victims.
