New Licensing Law for Pet Groomers

Lawmakers in California have proposed legislation that would require state licensing of pet groomers. Under Senate Bill 969, pet groomers would be responsible for passing state licensing exams, paying fees of up to $350, and complying with a variety of new rules related to safety and facility maintenance.

The bill is being promoted as a means to prevent untrained groomers from inadvertently causing injury to the pets under their care, but some groomers are concerned about the significant added costs that would be incurred due to the proposed licensing fees.
